Two one-page plans a substitute can run: coordinates on the bead loom, radial geometry on the kumihimo disc. Print them.
Columns and rows become ordered pairs; the half-drop offset becomes a visible pattern. 45 minutes, grades 3โ8, printable.
A 16-cord disc, a quarter turn at a time: rotation, positions, and the braid that grows without a knot. 45 minutes, grades 3โ8, printable.
A bead chart is a coordinate plane you can hold. Every pattern on this site โ the loom cuffs, the peyote bands, the kumihimo ropes โ is math a student can touch before anyone says the word. The plans keep it that way: the bead first, the math named after.
Both lessons work on paper alone. If a device is handy, the studio charts a peyote cuff at true size, the kumihimo explorer renders the 16-cord braids counted in the lesson (Holden, Bridges 2022), and the Delica color table carries 102 real colors for the palette work. The learn page holds the short explainers โ the aught-size decoder among them โ for the teacherโs own background.
Print either plan straight from the browser; the page prints as the plan, one sheet, with the benchโs mark at the bottom.
